Read contacts, matters, invoices and documents; create contacts, matters and notes in Docketwise. Hosted by usefulapi: connect it to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client.
Turn on the Docketwise connector, then ask in plain words. The AI picks the tools.
For immigration law firms that track client cases in Docketwise.
List the matters of the firm and read the number, title and status of each one. Open one matter to see its client, receipts and notes.
Find the matter by its number or title. List its USCIS receipts to see each receipt number, description and latest status update.
List the invoices of the firm and read the status and balance of each one. Open the charges of an invoice to see each service, expense and fee.
Search the documents by title and read the details of one document. Get a download link that works for one hour, and share it only with the person who asked.
Add a note to a matter or a client, for example a list of missing documents. Update the title or text of a note when the facts change.
Changes dataCreate a contact for the new client. Read the firm users, then create a matter for that client and assign the users who work on it.
Changes dataYou need your own Docketwise API app. The login page asks for its Client ID and Client secret; then you sign in with your Docketwise account and approve the access (OAuth).
Create the app in Docketwise under Settings > Developer access (API access is part of the Pro and Advanced plans; your firm asks Docketwise to enable it). Enter the redirect URI https://docketwise.usefulapi.io/callback, then enter the app's client ID and secret on the login page. The secret is stored encrypted and is used only to sign you in and refresh your Docketwise access.
This server reads your contacts, matters, receipts, invoices, documents and users. It can create contacts, matters and notes, and edit contacts and notes when you ask it to; it never deletes anything and never touches invoices, charges or payments. Social security number fields are never returned, and SSNs written in note text are masked (best effort). It can see only what your Docketwise user can see. You can revoke access any time in Docketwise.
Team and Enterprise: an Owner adds the connector for the organization first.
No Add custom MCP server option? It depends on your account or workspace settings: see OpenAI's guide.
Run this command, then run /mcp in Claude Code to log in:
Add to Cursor or add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"docketwise": {
"url": "https://docketwise.usefulapi.io/mcp"
}
}
} Add to VS Code or add this to .vscode/mcp.json:
{
"servers": {
"docketwise": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://docketwise.usefulapi.io/mcp"
}
}
} Run these commands. The second one opens the login page:
Windsurf, Cline, Zed and other MCP clients: add this URL as a remote MCP server (Streamable HTTP). The client then opens the login page in your browser.
Add only the URL. Do not add an Authorization header or an API key to the client config. The server signs you in with OAuth: you enter your own Docketwise app's client ID and secret, then sign in with your Docketwise account. If the config has such a header, remove it: some clients then send that header instead of the login token, and every call fails with 401.

*Pro fair use limit: 10,000 tool calls a month on this server. For more, write to [email protected].
Pro covers this Docketwise server only. Subscribe with docketwise_upgrade (it returns a Stripe Checkout link). Cancel any time with docketwise_cancel_subscription: Pro continues to the end of the paid period, with no refund for the current period, and running docketwise_upgrade before then undoes the cancel. Or write to [email protected].

No. usefulapi is an independent service. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Docketwise. The server calls the Docketwise API with your own Docketwise access, so it sees only the data that your account can see.
Yes. In Claude, add this server's URL as a custom connector. In ChatGPT, add it as a custom MCP server in Plugins. Then log in once. Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code and Codex work too. See the setup steps.
A Docketwise account with API access and your own Docketwise API app (its client ID and secret). See Before you connect for how to create it.
No. Add only the URL. Do not add an Authorization header or an API key to the client config. The server signs you in with OAuth: you enter your own Docketwise app's client ID and secret, then sign in with your Docketwise account. The login stores them encrypted in the authorization grant of your connection. The server uses them to call the Docketwise API for you and to derive a private account id for usage metering. usefulapi does not show them on any page or in any reply. You can revoke the access in Docketwise at any time.
Yes, if you approve it. 5 of the 20 Docketwise tools can create or change data. The other 15 are marked read-only. Most MCP clients ask you to approve a tool call before it runs.
The Free plan gives 50 tool calls / month. Pro costs $9/mo or $90/yr, with unlimited tool calls (fair use limit: 10,000 tool calls a month), for this Docketwise server only. Cancel any time: Pro then runs to the end of the paid period. Run docketwise_usage_status to see how many calls you used.
Ask the AI to run docketwise_upgrade: it returns a Stripe Checkout link. To cancel, run docketwise_cancel_subscription. Pro continues to the end of the paid period.
Tell the AI what you wanted to do. It can send the request with docketwise_request_feature. We store the text with the server name, the type of AI client and the tool you tried, not with your account, and read every request when we plan new tools. You can send up to 5 requests per day.
Any client that supports remote MCP servers (Streamable HTTP) with OAuth login: Claude (web and desktop), Claude Code, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and others.
This is a Model Context Protocol endpoint — meant to be connected from an AI client, not opened in a browser. An invalid_token response at the URL is the auth gate working as designed; clients authenticate automatically.
